Hadestown

Our Thoughts:
Do you remember learning about Greek mythology in school? Specifically the tragic tale of Eurydice and Orpheus. Blend that with the story of Hades and Persephone, add brilliant staging and a jazzy score by Anaïs Mitchell and you get Hadestown! I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this show several times both on Broadway and on the North American Tour. What keeps me coming back are the brilliant staging, including some of the best lighting I’ve seen in any musical, as well as a really touching story and a rich score. On top of that, there is a fasntastic cast on right now led by the Broadway legend Lillias White as Hermes, Solea Pfeiffer as Eurydice, Reeve Carney as Orpheus and starting on September 5th is Phillip Boykin as Hades and Betty Who as Persephone.

Official Show Synopsis:
Welcome to Hadestown, where a song can change your fate. This acclaimed musical by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and director Rachel Chavkin is winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. It intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it takes you on an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, singers and dancers, Hadestown invites you to imagine how the world could be.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Our Thoughts:
Originially released as a 2-part play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a must-see for any Potter fan! We have had the pleasure of seeing this show multiple times both on Broadway and in London, including the original 2-part play and the current 1-part play. Don’t think of this show as the 9th movie, but rather the 8th story portrayed on stage. Even though the show has been condensed into a single 2-act play, the run time is still 3 and a half hours so if you plan on seeing it with young kids, please keep that in mind! The staging has some of the best effects I have ever seen in the theatre and will leave you speechless at times! The characters, both old and new, have so much depth and will leave you completely entranced. We highly recommend this show!

Official Show Synopsis:
Adventure runs in the family. When Harry Potter’s head-strong son Albus befriends the son of his fiercest rival, Draco Malfoy, it sparks an unbelievable new journey for them all—with the power to change the past and future forever. Prepare for a mind-blowing race through time, spectacular spells, and an epic battle, all brought to life with the most astonishing theatrical magic ever seen on stage.

Experience the wizarding world like never before from the moment you arrive. The entire theatre has been transformed with hidden surprises to discover around every corner.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Sweeney Todd on Broadway. Photo by Matthew Murphy and Evan Zimmerman.

Our Thoughts:
If you are a fan of musical theatre in any capacity, you have probably heard of Sweeney Todd. I often call this show Stephen Sondheim’s magnum opus. This brilliant new production captures the very best of what musical theatre can be - a brilliant ensemble, lead by Josh Groban & Annaleigh Ashford, a booming 26 piece orchestra and unique & fresh staging. Other notable cast members include an incredible Broadway debut for Maria Bilbao as Johanna, Tony Award winner Ruthie Ann Miles as the Beggar Woman and Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo as Tobias. Groban has really proven himself as a bonafide Broadway star and brings a completely different take on the character. Annaleigh Ashford continues to impress me with the wide range of characters she has played. If you are looking for a night of the very best of the American musical theatre has to offer, I highly recommend this show!

Official Show Synopsis:
For the first time since 1980, Broadway audiences will experience Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award–winning score as it was performed in the original production—with Jonathan Tunick’s classic 26-piece orchestration on an epic scale. Tony-winning director Thomas Kail helms the return of this epic musical thriller, starring Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, a deliciously thrilling story of revenge and retribution, continues our celebration of the titan of musical theater: Stephen Sondheim.

After 15 years in exile, Sweeney Todd, an unsettling man with a mysterious past, arrives in a dark and gritty London, hungry for vengeance against the judge who destroyed his life. Todd joins forces with Mrs. Lovett, the unhinged proprietress of a failing pie shop, and together they develop a spinetingling plot to exact revenge. When the lights go down and the curtain goes up, you won’t dare look away.
